Classes and Activities
at The River

Glen Arbor is known for attracting creative people of all origins, professions and passions. There are many talented and creative folks that want to pass on their gift to others. The River is trying to give them that outlet and is offering these gifted artists, craftsman, fisherman, gardeners, jewelry makers, photographers and even coaches to you and your family. Here is a list of activities available and please keep in mind that it changes weekly….at least.

Rock Polishing: For this 1 hour activity we will provide materials including a stone that you get to choose, tools and instructions to polish a beautiful petoskey stone. At the end of the hour you will have an amazing piece of Leelanau County to take home with you! $10.00

p7044430Leather Stamping: During our 1 hour activity we will learn the basics of leather stamping and dying. Using eco-friendly dyes and different stamps with various leather projects we offer which might be a bracelet or a bookmark, we will together create a fun project you can enjoy for years to come! $30.00

Scavenger Hunt Collage:
TThis 2 hour activity includes a walk through The River and also the surrounding Glen Arbor area. During this time we will discover new places, find objects and make an amazing collage. The first hour includes the walk. We will find natural and man-made objects from the woods, the beach and local businesses. The second hour is completed back at The River where we will use our objects, a cork board and various materials to make a beautiful collage to take home!  $15.00

Laughersize and Lunastyx – Judy Sheffer is a licensed laugh instructor and a master lunastyx juggler. She will teach you how to laugh and juggle in a one hour class that will leave your spirit rejuvenated.

Photography Class – Local photographer Don Miller will take you to “secret spots” and teach you the basics of still and moving photography. Get out into the National Park and capture some memories. Oh yes, unless you want an earful, don’t bring up basketball. Don won the State Championship at Glen Lake way back in the forties.

FLY CASTING CLASSES:

Get into the water and learn to cast. Mark Ringlever will also teach a free fly casting class for kids two days a week, all summer long (May to September) and other times by request. this is a course developed for all ages to become acquainted with fly-fishing and casting, infused with a bit of wildlife awareness, entomology(life of bugs), and river etiquette & stewardship.

Nature walk with Cree Woodard – The Crystal River is very diverse in it’s plant life. Cree will take you on a gentle one hour hike and show you many indigenous plants, trees and hopefully a few wild critters.

p7044451Putting and Juggling Class – Let Mike or Fisher Sutherland teach you the basics of putting and get you juggling three balls all in a one hour class. Big fun and a skill you will keep forever.

Tennis Lessons – Tim Sutherland has been teaching tennis for 35 years and has an uncanny knack for figuring out your game and helping you advance it. He has a local nick name around town as “Yoda”. All levels and abilities. He coaches varsity tennis at Glen Lake, Leelanau, and TC Christian Schools.

Leather Stamping – We will teach you how to stamp, stain and paint leather for a jewelry keepsake that you can hand down to your grandchildren. This age old craft is fascinating to kids and adults as well.
